Nous souhaitons vous annoncer la tenue de la 4ème édition du colloque international REGARDS AUTOCHTONES SUR LES AMÉRIQUES qui se tiendra les 1er et 2 août 2012, à Montréal et à Kahnawake, dans le cadre du festival Présence autochtone.

Regards autochtones sur les Amériques est un colloque international qui vise à mieux comprendre le rôle des expériences et des regards cinématographiques autochtones dans ce sont et ce que peuvent devenir les Amériques. Des tables-rondes et des communications universitaires réuniront cinéastes/vidéastes, réalisateurs et producteurs autochtones, chercheurs et étudiants universitaires autour de thèmes et de questions d’actualité.
Avec Manon Barbeau (cinéaste et directrice-fondatrice du Wapikoni Mobile), Paula Morgado (Université de São Paulo), Anne Makepeace (cinéaste, États-Unis), Audra Simpson (Columbia University), Jeff Dorn (cinéaste, Canada) et autres invités.
À l’occasion de la présentation du film The Grammar of Happiness dans le cadre du festival Présence autochtone :
Conférence du professeur et linguiste Daniel Everett (Bentley University), personnage principal du film, qui nous offrira une meilleure compréhension du langage des Pirahã du Brésil tout en ébranlant au passage certaines thèses de la linguistique contemporaine.
Suivie d’une séance de signature de Daniel Everett de ses ouvrages Don’t Sleep, There are Snakes, Language: The Cultural Tool & Cognitive Fire

We are pleased to invite you to the 4th edition of REVISIONING THE AMERICAS THROUGH INDIGENOUS CINEMA to be held in Montreal and Kahnawake on August 1st and 2nd 2012 as part of the annual First Peoples Festival Présence autochtone.

Revisioning the Americas Through Indigenous Cinema 2012 is a cultural and academic conference which aims to develop and further a collective reflection and a better understanding of the role of Indigenous film experiences and perspectives in what are and what may become the Americas. Panel discussions and academic papers will bring together indigenous filmmakers/videomakers and producers, scholars and students around various topics and current issues.
With Manon Barbeau (filmmaker and founder-director of Wapikoni Mobile), Paula Morgado (São Paulo University), Anne Makepeace (filmmaker, United-States), Audra Simpson (Columbia University), Jeff Dorn (filmmaker, Canada), and other guests.
In conjunction with the First Peoples’ festival Présence autochtone’s screening of The Grammar of Happiness :
Professor and linguist Daniel Everett (Bentley University), main character of the feature film, will be giving a lecture entitled Life and Language in the Amazon Jungle: The Difficult Task of Understanding Others.
His talk will enable a better understanding of the Pirahã from Brazil, and how certain contemporary theories of linguistics may be upset.
Followed by a book signing of Daniel Everett’s works: Don’t Sleep, There are Snakes, and Language: The Cultural Tool & Cognitive Fire.
Free admission! With simultaneous translation!
